In this article, you will find a few tips on how to fix that sagging memory foam mattress which is giving you sleepless nights. But before we get to these tips, let's look at some of the potential causes that lead to your sagging mattresses?
Causes Of Saggy Mattresses
Some of the reasons why your memory foam mattress is sagging could be due to:
- Frequent use
- Placing the mattress on an uneven surface
- When the inner component disintegrates due to the aging of the foam
- High moisture content
- Inadequate care
Prevent the Sagging of a Memory Foam Mattress
If you want to care for sagging mattress, you will need to care for it right from the time you buy it. You will need to avoid liquid and moisture, spills by covering it with a waterproof protector. On a regular basis, you will need to flip it on its sides so that you avoid direct sunlight. When it comes to washing, you will need to avoid frequent washing.
Fix the Sagging of a Memory Foam Mattress
Things you might need to use in fixing the memory foam mattress include:
The steps (from start to finish) you might need to use in fixing the memory foam mattress are:
1. Put The Mattress On The Floor
This step should be straight-forward.
2. Putt A Pillow Beneath The Sagging Area
If your mattress has a depression in the middle, you will only need to pick some soft fiber-filled pillows. Using small ones is ideal because you will be able to place them in particular places. All you will need to do is to put the pillows beneath the saggy areas and this will make you sleep easy on a surface which is even.
3. Use A Mattress Topper Or Pad
It is possible to make your mattress a better place to sleep by using a mattress pad or topper which you will put on top of your foam mattress. You will find several mattress pads and toppers on the market to choose from and you are at liberty to go through them and choose what is best for you. Among them, you will find memory foam mattress toppers, fiber filled or down filled. If there is a lump in your mattress or a deep depression, there is a way to sort it out. To make your saggy mattress, you will need to go for a mattress topper that is thick as this will cover and adjust to the surface and your body will be able to rest on an even and well-balanced surface.
If you are going for a mattress topper or pad, make sure you buy it from a store which allows a refund in case it doesn’t work for you.
I can recommend the 3 inch toppers from Linenspa - these are available on Amazon (see link), and are a little pricey but worth every penny.
For a budget option, simply go for the 2 inch Linenspa topper, it's a bit thinner and will provide less support, but if your mattress hasn't sagged too much this should do the trick.
For these toppers, you have every major bed size available, just remember to choose the correct one before checkout.
In my case, I used a fiber bed and it worked comfortably for me. You could also try the feather bed, but if neither of the two works for you, then you should face the reality that, your mattress is not suitable for your needs and you need to replace it as soon as possible.
The work of the topper or pad is to reduce or at least slow down the amount of heat which is able to reach the memory foam which can firm up the memory foam or slow down how quickly it becomes softer over the course of the night. This will depend on the temperature sensitivity and the specifics of the memory foam.
4. Plywood Or Cardboard Replacement For A Weak Foundation
Making the mattress comfortable after it becomes uncomfortable, you will need to use a cardboard or a plywood under your mattress. Check out if it is in a good condition or has pressings which could make the mattress uncomfortable. You will need to place another plywood underneath the mattress or completely replace the one which was there previously.
You can try putting the mattress on the floor to find out if the foundation may be flexing and the reason for the saggy nature of your mattress. If the issue is then solved, you can replace the foundation with one that doesn’t flex or you could add a sheet of plywood which could make it more comfortable than it currently is. If after putting it on the floor the problem is not sorted out, then your mattress could be the problem and thus could be in need of a replacement.
5. Using A Mattress Helper
If you are interested, then you can try a mattress helper which is a tad expensive but will definitely work. I recommend this option if your sagging is severe or your mattress is just too soft.
You will need to place the mattress helper directly underneath the spot where the mattress is sagging.
When it comes to product selection, there is good and bad news: The bad news is that there are not a lot of mattress helpers which are work as promised. The good news is that this simplifies your shopping experience.
From my reserach, I can only recommend this Mattress Helper (click link to see price on Amazon), and remember to select the right size and to buy the full version NOT the extension.
Because you are the only one who knows how you feel to the mattress you are currently using, you will be the one who knows which one of the above suggestions would be able to work for you. The above will enable you to save money which you could have used to buy a replacement for the mattress. There will be more to save by just fixing your old mattress, using the above-suggested tactics. What I have given up there are some methods which I have used or some of my friends have put into use and I am sure it will give you the best results. Hope it will be helpful to you and you will implement them to prevent our sagging mattresses to make it give you a comfortable sleep.
